Port
Those of you who have gotten ports, do you regret the decision? I don't want one but my veins are shot. I have to get two years of maintenance Rituxan (every two months) and I dread the needle digging and the veins not holding up. I feel like if I get a port they will just continue to recommend treatment for years. I don't want to be a permanent patient just because I have a port. Sounds silly but it concerns me. Please chime in. thank you
I only get my port flushed every 2 months when I get maintenance Rituxan and blood draws. I’ve been told that the Rituxan belly shots cause less reactions because it absorbs slowly in your tissue. I never had a reaction during drip but now I have continual mouth sores.
Best thing ever! I have 0 veins as well, port is a must!
I didn't get a port either.
It was only brought up after 4 sessions of 2 days
Like you veins were destroyed
Radiology had to be utilized for the last two. I do have to admit that upper arm deep vein access for iv was better than usual sites. Treatments over for now till next scan in 4 mos.
Best of luck my friend in health, prayers your way 🙏
Port was fine 15 years ago. Had it removed after 3 years. Relapse happened in 2020. Since I only was going to get rituxan, no infusions were necessary because the subcutaneous injections in belly were available and worked well. Had one reaction to the injection, a rash. Was able to successfully treat that with benedryl as directed by oncologist. Port is ok though, as others pointed out, it requires some maintenance. Best regards whatever your decision! 🙏💪
