Is NH Lymphoma Cureable
Hi Aldalessandro. My oncologist told me I would die with it, not from it.

According to my oncologist, as this has been an important question for me in the past, no, there isn't a cure. Treatment is designed to bring about remission. And remission rates, even long term are very positive.
Besides, we all have cancer cells within us all the time anyways. Nothing is always perfect and our body - if healthy - destroys bad cells. NHL, oddly, is where - if I understand the science - certain immune cells begin to accumulate until there are too many of them and a blockage occurs. This blockage or overabundance is the cancer. The immune system has lost control of producing the anti-bodies. Chemo are monoclonal antibodies (one option - Rituxan) that goes in and cleans up the mess, brings about order again. Initially one's immunity bottoms out and other chemo drugs help us regroup so the monoclonals can do their job.
From what I understand monoclonal antibodies stay around for a long time sort of as traffic cops. Other factors may then apply like changes in appetite, other health improvements. It's all pretty fascinating to me. But, I do believe from what I have been told is that "I do have cancer" and will for the remainder of my life. And I may never have to encounter it again! My advice, no point in worrying to extremes, do your treatment, take advantage of your rebirth, be patient with yourself as it may take years to get it together again.
Happy New Year... say hello to even more advanced medicine. Every year miracles occur exponentially... like computers - compare the high-end computer of 1999 to those of today.

Depends on type apparently.
