I got a prescription from oncologist called magic mouth wash you swoosh and swallow. A person whom I meet at store I go to told me to call doctor for it. I hope it works so I can eat my homemade potato salad and ham today. I’ll let you all know just in case someone needs relief.

Theresa6,
GM! Glad you were able to get a mouth rinse.
Thought of something else that helped me.
Not sure which chemo you are on.
If you are on CHOP, an infusion that contains Doxyrubicin, I was told to suck on ice chips during my infusion by a nurse. Somehow, it did help prevent or at least reduce mouth sores from the chemo. If nothing else, it is worth a try if they have ice chips.
Hope you feel better soon.

Theresa6,
Is the mouth dryness and mouth sores after chemo or radiation?

If you have mouth sores, your oncologist can write a script for magic mouthwash. It usually contains an antihistamine, an antacid to help heal and lidocaine to help numb the pain.

Another thing recommended by oncologists for mouth dryness is xyliments as it helps to moisturize your mouth. You can get them at Walmart or most drugstores.

Sometimes even chewing sugarless gum can help with dryness by increasing saliva.

It sounds like you are already drinking your water.

Sore throat or mouth ulcers can also be helped by gargling with warm water and 1 tsp baking soda.

Hope this helps.
