My WBC Is Low But Not Dangerously So. I Am Wondering If It Safe To Be Staying Inside With Lots Of People?

Since I am immunocompromised, I am afraid of getting any kind of infection. I know there’s some risk, no matter what. Even if the risk is small, the consequences of falling ill while having just finished chemo and still in maintenance with Rituxan could be dire. I am wondering what precautions others are taking as we enter the holiday season. I’m an introvert anyway, but I don’t want to use my health issues as an excuse for going awol.

This is just a thought but something I did one year when I needed to be alone ... It was Christmas and I wanted to celebrate. I popped popcorn, took a needle and thread and strung the popcorn. Then I went out into the woods and decorated a small tree. It was my gift to the birds and other critters. I got to celebrate without the dangers of other people around and the wildlife benefited. I'll soon be 69 and of all my Christmas memories that's one of my fondest. 😊👍

I took a risk and gathered with family indoors for 2 days. I don't feel I had a choice. I didn't wear a mask. Today, I am negative for covid. I do have a cough, but so far, nothing serious.

I had a similar situation early on. My doctor told me in no uncertain terms to stay out of crowds.

Angus, I wrote you early this month but I have an update. I have been so happy that my family would be together for Christmas this year. This morning my youngest called to tell me she has covid. We both cried in disappointed. I am just telling you this so you realize how be easy it is to get covid! No earthly idea where she might have contracted it. So, even on Christmas we immunosuppressed need to be very careful! Merry Christmas, Angus!!!!

That’s a beautiful Christmas Story. More meaningful then what Christmas has turned into.
