Hair Falling Out

A MyLymphomaTeam Member asked a question 💭
Colton, CA

I noticed today that even the slightest pull a lot of hair is coming out of my head and facial hair. I’m assuming my hair is about to fall out. For everyone who experience hair loss what did you do in this situation? I don’t know if I should just shave it or let it fall out.

Members who experienced chemotherapy-related hair loss overwhelmingly recommended shaving their heads proactively rather than watching it fall out gradually, describing the control and dignity this choice provided during an emotionally devastating time. Several members shared that losing hair from their head, eyebrows, and eyelashes was one of the hardest parts of treatment, but they found comfort in wearing beanies, caps, and other head coverings that helped them feel more like themselves. A recurring theme was the reassurance that hair does grow back after treatment ends, with many members offering hope and solidarity to those just beginning to experience hair loss.

James985,
Hi! I had long blonde thick hair. I lost it all. However, it does come back. My husband shaves his head purposely. That's what attracted me to him!!! For a man it can be a suave look!! I know it's hard but it will return. Kelly

thank you for the responses. I can’t imagine being a woman and going through that when it’s devastating to me as well. I felt sick to my stomach seeing the amount of hair that was coming out last night. I may end up shaving because I don’t like to see my hair slowly come out like that.

I shaved my head as I couldn’t watch it come out in handfuls. I lost my hair twice and it was a hard thing to deal with for me. But it grows back. It is part of the process and I wanted to have control.
