Members answered a question about which test determines the exact type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma by unanimously confirming that only a biopsy can definitively identify the specific subtype, not CT scans, PET scans, or bloodwork alone. Several members shared their own experiences with biopsies, including one member who had a large lymph node surgically removed for diagnosis, and explained that doctors select nodes based on specific diagnostic characteristics rather than size, with PET scans helping guide the decision. Members offered reassurance and practical advice, encouraging the original poster to make a list of questions for their oncologist, reread the biopsy report carefully, and lean on the medical team for answers specific to their case.

Hi Lynn10. .
My oncologist says Lymphoma is very treatable nowadays. I have stage 4 MCL. My first cycle of RChop chemo is promising. Large tumors visible shrunk 60%, small ones disappear. I will have 2nd round in more than a week. No fear. Exercise and eat well to reserve energy for chemo.

Lynn- I am not a medical professional, but, I believe they look for the node that has just the right characteristics that they are looking for that will help them determine the stage and type/ I don’t think they go by the size- I believe they know just what they need to get and the pet scan shows them where to go, I think…😊- you might want to write a lot of these things down so you can ask his oncologist- they are the ones with the answers specific to your husband’s case….♥️

I'm concerned they didn't remove his large lymph node. How is that decision made?
