If you are still confused, here is a good explanation of Malt and EZML Lymphomas…
“MALT lymphoma is a specific type of EMZL, and the two terms are often used interchangeably. EMZL encompasses all marginal zone lymphomas that develop in extranodal tissues, while MALT lymphoma specifically refers to those arising from mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue, such as Gastric MALT Lymphoma, which is in the lining of the stomach.”
This cleared it up for me, hope it helps you too!

According to NIH, extranodal refers to an area or organ outside of the lymph nodes.
My diagnosis was MZL with extranodal components. MZL was diagnosed after biopsy of my groin and breast lymph nodes. Then after PET scan it was found I had it in multiple lumps in my subcutaneous and intramuscular tissue.

I have MALT lymphoma in my stomach lining, but no other lymphomas. And I tested negative for H.pylori, which is usually the cause of MALT lymphoma. Bone marrow checked out ok, etc…
MALT lymphoma is also called “EMZL”! I’ve been confused on this!
(I had nsc lung cancer five years ago, but was told these two cancers are not related, that I have two primary cancers)

Mine has been called Extranodal Marginal Zone Lymphoma too because it is only in my bone marrow and not in my lymph nodes. I have a feeling its actually Splenic Marginal Zone Lymphoma but my spleen hasn't really presented itself yet. But I too definitely don't have MALT which is more gastric based.

Hi Nickstarr. Extranodal Marginal Zone Lymphoma is the most common subtype of MZL I just read.
