I Need A Lot Of Information On Car T. Time In Hospital What Happens Next. Please
Hi Karen,
I'm not sure what part of the world you're in. I'm in Australia, and I had donor CAR-T in July. Donor CAR-T is fairly new, so I'm not sure about the whole process of taking T cells from your own body, etc, and what that involves.
It required three days of intense chemo in a row, and then 3 days rest.
From infusion day it was a week in the hospital. They will check your bloods etc every 3-4 hours and also do the ICANS assessment numerous times a day.
I was then put up in a hotel for 2 weeks within walking distance of the hospital. My carer still had to do the ICANS testing with me 3x/day. I had to go into the hopsital 3x a week for bloods, etc ...
then home for another 2 weeks after that.
So, 5 and a bit weeks in total.
I wasn't allowed to drive for the first 2 months after, you'll need 24hr care for the first couple of weeks at least.
I had very few side effects. I broke out in welts/hives after the first 24 hours, and they stopped one of the meds I was on. My liver function was off too, so they had me in for 3 lots of Ambisone infusions.
Otherwise, my experience has been very non eventful.
Thank you
