What Tests Or Scan Do You Have For The Routine Check Up Appointments?

A MyLymphomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

My mom was diagnosed with DLBCL, early stage mid last year and reached complete remission after three rounds of Rchop. We decided to complete the 6 rounds which finished in October last year, then had another scan which also showed complete remission. For the check up appointments, her haematologist said she only needed to have blood tests but I read here that people also have scan for the check up. I am a bit confused. Do you also have PET scan/CT scan for the check-up or only blood tests?

JanTran,
I was told that I will only be having blood work unless I show symptoms of a relapse. I have a complete blood panel plus an LDH blood test also. Kelly

Jan, Most oncologist do Ct/Pet every 3 months for 2 years the every 6 months or every year .
There are some oncologist that believe you are fine with normal blood work and no new clinical symptoms .This is especially true for Dlcbl because it grows fast and clinical symptoms are usually present at the time of recurrence
Best regards

Every 3 months I have a CBC, LDH, and comprehensive metabolic panel. Every 6 months I have a CT scan. This is my routine for the first two years following chemo for DLBCL, stage 1S. My location was the spleen which was removed to obtain a diagnosis. I received 4 rounds if R-chop.

For routine check-up appointments after treatment for diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), the approach can vary depending on the doctor and the patient's specific situation. Blood tests, such as a complete blood count (CBC), are commonly used to monitor for signs of recurrence or other issues. PET or CT scans are not always part of routine follow-up unless there are symptoms or concerns that warrant further investigation. Your mom's haematologist may have chosen blood tests based on her remission status and clinical guidelines. Always feel free to discuss your concerns with her doctor for clarity.
