In Remission! Keep Port Or Have It Removed?

My oncologist wants me to leave it in as long as it causes no problem. I am on a low dose blood thinner anyway, so I'm not worried about clots. I see the oncologist every 2 months and it is flushed then. When those visits extend to every 3 or more months, I will probably have it taken out rather than make the time for flushes between visits.

Out was MUCH easier than in for me.

I just had mine out. I've been in remission for 23 months. I had a funky bruise around mine and they suggested taking it out. Kelly

I kept my port for 2.5 years after remission for maintenance chemo.

Congratulations on making it through chemo and beating cancer. Ask your doctor for appointment to remove port.
Make sure to check once a year to make sure cancer free and in remission.
