Anxiety Issues

A MyLymphomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was diagnosed with non Hodgkin lymphoma in February of this year and have completed 5 of 6 sessions of chemotherapy infusion. Over the last couple of months I have started to experience anxiety and the last week or so this has become very severe, affecting me daily and making feel scared to be alone. I just wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience and how you have coped with it please.

Judy289,
What a beautiful way to lower your anxiety and fall asleep with the Rosery. Kelly

I, too, experience anxiety. I do not take medication for it but when I feel anxiety coming on, I pray or listen to soft music. I find keeping close to God helps me tremendously. Also, stay away from coffee, tea, alcohol, and chocolate. These all contribute to anxious feelings, the research shows. After I was diagnosed with CLL/SLL, I was unable to sleep. If I got 3 hours of sleep, I was lucky. I found that if I said the Rosary, I slept soon after. So now when I get into bed, I reach for my Rosary beads. The beads “anchor” the anxiety to something and the repetition of the prayers soothe, relaxes, and brings on drowsiness. Now I fall asleep soon after starting the Rosary, never finishing it.

Talk with your doctor. There are good medication for this. Maybe also try meditation or relaxation exercises ❤️

MalCollins,
Hi!! Yes I totally understand!! I have/had DLBCL stage IV and had treatments of RCHOP chemo. I too have/had bad anxiety. I'm 2 1/2 yrs in remission and still am anxious about my labs etc and sometimes at night I am anxiety ridden. I take an anti anxiety medication as needed which really helps. I also am on an antidepressant which helps too. I believe that you can't go through what we've been through without some anxiousness. Contact your Dr and explain what's going on. I'm sure they will help you out. Plus, having a therapist to discuss what you've gone through and are going through might help you too. Kelly
