In remission 4 years. Went through 6 months of chemo. I'd recommend mitake mushrooms if you like mushrooms and Ginseng root. I buy the powdered root and ad to my coffee grounds in my coffee maker. There are other things and there's a lot of advice out there. I'm simply sharing my thoughts.

Added 8/30: I want to also say, I believe in positive thinking, difficult as it may be sometimes, that the little things in life like my coffee with ginseng are a positive thing for me. I feel it helps, the research suggests it helps too. I also found that by adding a trace of licorice root powder in the coffee grounds with the ginseng gives it a smooth, satisfying taste. Which makes me feel good also. Perhaps that morning cup of coffee could be one of the more positive starts to a day.

NOTE: I don't add licorice root every day. There is some research that suggests it could have carcinogenic properties. There's also research where there are many benefits that may make the risk desirable.

Hope I made sense there :)

This is going to be long , so please indulge me.
My husband was diagnoosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma , Diffused Large B Cell Lymphoma, High Grade Lymphoma, Stage 4. Journey started Jan. 6 , he was finally diagnosed on the 2nd lung needle biopsy 2/25/23. 1st one done @ another hospital 2/6 reported no malignancy cells seen- yup ! πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ
In response to your question, we totally avoided mingling with people including family. Missed bdays, etc. It’s facetime or waves & flying kisses between sidewalk and front door. No eat outs , no groceries/shopping, etc. Grateful for online church services. Saved $25 a month barber fee.
Followed diet restrictions such as no raw/undercooked foods, no fresh salads . With fresh fruits, only large peeled ones like apple, oranges, etc. & absolutely no berries, unless cooked.
Good oral care; Good soap & water handwashings, hand sanitizers when no other option; Used Hibiclens ( an antiseptic solution) on body parts when showering except face, mouth, genitalia; sanitize surfaces.
Avoid cuts/ injury/ trauma.
Mask always worn when going outside for tests/dr. appointments, etc.
He was put on daily Zarxio inj. @ home for a specified number of days after each cycle of chemo to stimulate production of WBC (white blood count).
Even with these precautions, he ran a temp. 101.5 ( neutropenic fever) one evening. His WBC was extremely low @ 0.54.
Was admitted for 3 days with 2 different kinds of IV antibiotics. Positive for Corona virus NL 63 , a common one , not Covid-19. The smallest infection could quickly advance to sepsis if left untreated with an immunocompromised cancer patient on chemo.
Do all you can to prevent infection & catch it at the first earliest sign & symptom.
We called the hotline # provided us & brought my husband to the ER of the same hospital where he was being treated at its cancer center. Upon hearing that my husband is under chemo @ their cancer center & now presenting with a high temperature, we were whisked in in no time. Very important to convey & emphasize that information, but be nice.
ER Waiting room is the worst place to linger in.
Err on the side of caution. But, don’t panic & don’t stress yourself out, either. Take a deep breath and stay calm.
My husband just finished all his treatments of 9 cycles of Immunotherapy & 7 cycles of Chemo July 28, 2023. He got to ring the bell !!! Praise The Lord !
Except for an episode of partial small bowel obstruction which resolved after 4 days of hospitalization, some mouth sores, he tolerated all treatments quite well. No nausea/ vomiting/ fatigue/loss of appetite. He already gained 2 of the 10 lbs. he lost & is looking forward to seeing his barber friend again in the near future πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.
A PetScan is scheduled on 9/11/23.
Praying for continued favor from both God and man for my husband and for all affected.
Lastly, keep the spirits up ! Hope springs eternal !
