How Was Your Journey Of Diagnosis ? Once You Got To Know About Cancer, What Were Your Feelings ?

A MyLymphomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

For me it took 5 months to diagnose. What started as simple coughing in May month took shape of DLBCL in October. I went from Primary care physician to Gastro to Oncologist, each making me do blood work almost every other week (more than combined tests i might have undergone in my life so far) plus other tests which i can't even remember now.

I was in denial for initial 2-3 days but letting my family and friends know helped me get out of denial, and start working on my treatment. Shifted from… read more

Hello Michelle, my biggest reason for transitioning was support. I was new in NC and didn’t had any support. In this tough time I wanted to be closer to folks who can help me. With regards to large medical center, make up your mind which one you want, and reach them quickly any try getting earliest possible appointments. Once they have you enrolled, they will try to bring all your medical records from your previous hospital/labs. If that will take time, ask them to run the tests again and get the treatment started.

AkhilBansal,
Hi! My feelings were all over the place. I was so very sick for a couple of months. We went to the ER three times until my husband told them that they were going to keep me until they figured out what was wrong with me. I was in the hospital for twelve days. I had my first chemo at night in the hospital. I was on an emotional roller-coaster even when I got back home. I too was in disbelief that I had cancer. At first I didn't want to tell anyone other than immediate family. Then I told my church family which helped. As time has gone by I have given testimonials on my journey and how God and others have helped me along the way. It definitely is a process. I hope you are feeling well. Good luck on your upcoming treatment. I hope you have a peaceful day. Kelly

Thank you so much for your reply. What you said makes perfect sense. I will pass this along to my BIL.

Hi Akhil, I'm reading that you transitioned your treatments from NC to TX. My 52 y/o brother-in-law lives in SC and we are all wondering about how/why/when to seek treatment at larger medical centers. Do you have any advise/suggestions? Thanks much! Michelle

Once diagnosed we weren't too concerned b/c we were already in the hospital and received the first treatment there with no side effects. Everything seems to be going fine - we had no doubt that we'd beat this. We spent a lot of time learning about what SVC and NHL and I spent a lot of time explaining it to relatives and friends.

Problems didn't occur until we got home 3 days later. Our outlook changes daily, but we haven't lost hope yet.
