Would You Change Providers?
By providers I mean hospital system, affiliation, and oncologists.
-If during your cancer/chemo journey you were not successful with you results would you change providers if it meant redoing all your labs/tests and diagnosis? V.S. staying with the same provider where all your records are held.
I had a oncologist who lied to me twice, he thought he was doing me a favor. This caused me Anxiety. I tried to deal with it because I didn’t want to do anything to change my outcome.
Then there was another situation w his nurse. She refused to respect my wish of not taking my bp on my R side. She said the Dr says this is fine, he makes the big bucks, So you be the Patient and let me be the MA.
(I have had 4 lymph nodes removed in 3 different surgeries. All on the right side. This visit was for a new inflamed lymph node on my neck r mid-clavicle area.)
This irritated me awful, I wanted to leave. When I told the Dr what happened he laughed. His comment was “oh she meant no harm”. I said nothing.
I am a Paramedic RN Firefighter if I treated a patient like this I would be fired.
I spoke to the Director of Patient care. Three times before I decided to switch Dr’s.
Believe me best decision I ever made. My health care is never going to be compromised again.
Not all Dr’s are a good fit for everyone. You must be comfortable. Your mental state is a huge part of your success beating cancer.
We must advocate for ourselves.
I was told recently that my previous Dr is no longer w RMCC, he was walked off.
Im just happy to have a good Dr now. One who is honest compassionate.
If my treatment wasn’t successful I would be searching all options doing whatever it takes. Im not a quitter.
YES I did
It's tough one. I got diagnosed in North Carolina and doctor and nurse there tried their best to get myself treated there even after I mentioned I don't have any support there and they acted like there is no need for support. Sometime, doctors and nurse might not overall be aligned with your needs. I moved to Houston, as fast as I can, provider here ran all tests again on fast-track and had my first chemo last week. I feel thankful that i made that decision as i am finding support is necessary.
Changing provider during the treatment is something I personally would avoid unless you feel you are not getting right treatment or you can get better treatment somewhere else. Also before switching to new provider, i would check if they are ready to accept me in the middle.
You go girl! I would have probably cried about it to my husband and expected him to confront the problems. You are an example to us all!
I was fortunate in so many ways. My cancer was found accidentally after a severe mouth burn, just as it had begun to change into DLBCL. Evidently I had follicular lymphoma for years and didn’t know it. I am a Kaiser Permanente member. The oncologist who was assigned to be my physician is remarkable and I love him. I have received the best care.. and while I am always anxious about a relapse, he is still my doctor, I still see him regularly for followup appointments and I have faith that if I do ever relapse, he will help me achieve complete remission again.
I hope your new doctor is everything you need to reach remission and recovery.
