I've Seen A Lot Of Posts About Plant Based Diet. Could Someone Please Tell Me The Benefits?

Hi Alice,
This is a tough answer for me. Here’s my history. In 2012 I weighed over 335#. I had a cardiovascular scare and was in the hospital overnight to test to see if I’d had a heart attack. Only by the grace of God I hadn’t. I knew I had to make a lifestyle change or I wasn’t going to live a long time. I left on vacation with two videos to watch. Fat. Sick and almost dead (I think) and Forks over knives ( think scalpels). After watching both I decided to follow the FOK plant based lifestyle. I went cold turkey. I haven’t had any dairy, meat since July 12, 2012.
This has helped me. It has saved my life. In the movies it has science backed information about reversing heart disease, diabetes, prohibiting cancer. The China Study is the source for the cancer side of the information. I had no more knee pain, energy was great, I was losing weight.
Now I move to 2016 and was diagnosed with uterine cancer. I wasn’t shocked due to my post menopausal history. I had a hysterectomy and didn’t require any further treatment. I was very grateful! I continue to lose weight. Retired and found pickleball as my exercise. My bloodwork is great. I did have low blood counts in 2022., but the dr didn’t flag it. I’m not on any meds. No health issues at all. Feeling wonderful! Currently I’ve lost over 150# and have 20# to my goal weight. I dream of having skin removal surgery because I deal with a lot a body dysmorphia. I may still be able to have my elective surgeries while I’m still early in my cancer journey. I had my Welcome to Medicare physical and bloodwork. The blood counts are still low. All about boarder line low/normal. Same as 2022. But this Dr decided to send me to a blood Dr for more information. This has led to my waldenstrom NHL diagnosis.
Here’s the tough part. I feel cheated by the claim of a plant based lifestyle style preventing cancer. I even now have a heart murmur that wasn’t there before. I have tried to find a plant based dr to ask questions but can’t find one. I still believe this lifestyle is the best for me. I won’t stop. I just want to know why it didn’t stop me from this type of cancer. My cancer Dr says I have the MYD88 gene. Something about this gene to tied to NHL. I haven’t looked into this gene. Is it a new mutation? Is it something I’ve had all my life? Can my children have this?
I’m blindsided. I’m angry.
But I still believe the whole food plant based lifestyle (WFPB) is the best way to eat. I’ve pushed back on some plant based influencers about their prevent cancer claims. I can’t be silent about this. The diet isn’t bulletproof.
The diet is anti inflammatory. It’s rich in fiber. It’s low fat. It’s nutrient rich. It can be very simple, not expensive, I can be a volume eater. It’s not just salad and carrot sticks. It helps with energy and endurance. Watch The Game Changers on Netflix if you have access.
Thanks for reading. I hope this helps.❤️
Thank you for taking the time to answer my question, I really appreciate it and I hope you continue to have good health 😊 I definitely will br trying a plant based diet if it helps with weight as that's a big issue for me currently 🥰
