Could You Please Share Tips On How To Avoid Infection During Chemotherapy Treatment ?
My mom will have her first chemotherapy session tomorrow. I am worried about infection risks. We will stay mostly in door and will avoid having visitors during her treatment cycle. Are there other things I need to watch out or prepare for?
JanTran,
Hi! I too stayed isolated. I didn't even go to the grocery store my husband did. If I needed to get out of the house we went on a car picnic we called them. We'd go through a drive thru get some food and park somewhere nice and eat in the car. If I had to go out for Dr appointments I always wore a mask. I washed my hands all the time of course. I got through my treatments of RCHOP chemo without an infection. But again, I stayed isolated. Visitors wore a mask too when they came over. We had very few. People do understand. I had DLBCL stage IV during the height of covid. I ended up getting covid this past Christmas which was 2 1/2yrs after treatments. I still wore masks out but somehow got it. I've been in remission for 3 yes and don't wear a mask anymore. I know it's difficult to stay isolated but it's worth it. I hope your mom does well tomorrow with her treatment. Kelly
I would tell her to live her life. I did all that for a while and still ended up getting Covid from someone at the doctors office. I wouldn’t go crazy of course but sometimes being a recluse takes a toll. Not sure what kind of chemo she is on but mine I noticed that the 2nd week was the worst and by the 3rd week I was out and about all the time as my counts recovered.
