Starting R-CHOP For Stage 4 DLBCL Next Week…
I know the experience can be significantly different from person to person, but what has been yours? I’d like to get back to work sooner than later but I’m being told that may not be realistic during treatment. Thanks in advance. Frank
Frank4,
Hi! And welcome to the site. Everyone on here is so kind, supportive and helpful. I have/had DLBCL stage IV also. I too had RCHOP chemo. 6 treatments. During my treatments I felt sick the evening of my treatments. Not so good the next day either. But, then it started to lift some. Probably the first 3 days I didn't feel like myself. Tired, nausea etc. The first week was a bit rough, the second week I was much better, the third week even better. Then it was time for my next treatment. I had them every 3 weeks. As the treatments went on they did get rougher also. I've heard it's an accumulated situation. Make sure you drink LOTS of fluids. I drank alot even during my treatments to flush it through. Try to eat. Especially protein. I ate peanut butter bagels even when I didn't feel like it. My husband made me smoothies too with ice-cream, fruit and kale. Anything to keep up your strength. I rested alot too. Watched alot of cowboy movies!! But, I've been in remission now for 2 1/2 yrs. I cut out sugar, coffee and soda. I now drink green tea, water and naked juice only. (You can get that at your local grocery store) I walk daily too. Good luck to you on your treatments and if you have any questions please feel free to ask me. Kelly
Good to hear these responses from people. I was diagnosed 3 days ago. I’m 75 years old and have received a heart transplant 20 years ago.
I’m suppose to be starting treatments in the next 2 weeks or so. Just trying to see what to expect
First 2 were ok. Nausea kicked in at times and tabs helped me to subside. I walked each and every day, even on the day of treatments. Yes, tired. Make sure you drink 2 Liters of water or other fluid. I am diabetic, so fruit juices are out but I take fruits. Due to meds (I forgot), my blood sugar shoots up for 1 wk and had to manage with insulin. Fun days :) Meditation, prayers helped, reading helped. That walking helped me literally to get through the cycles. Now I am free with 3 years.
Good luck! I admire anyone who tries to work through treatment. I had R-CHOP from October to January last winter. I found the first 5 days to be tolerable, but the fatigue really set in days 6-12. The last week was OK. So I would say give yourself some grace for the first 2 weeks--do as much as you can without exhausting yourself. Stay hopeful. Take whatever nausea drugs and laxatives they allow. Drink a lot. Just give yourself a break if you need it. It's not easy, but it's not the worst thing in the world, and the 4 months will go quickly.
Thanks for the detailed response. I’ll try to post real time reactions once I’m home after the first treatment on Monday.
