Developed A Fever Today. What Should I Do?

I’m 51 and have stage IV DLBCL. I’m otherwise healthy with no comorbidities. Had my first R-CHOP treatment two weeks ago and didn’t experience any side effects during or after treatment. This evening I had several episodes of chills and then began feeling hot. Took my temperature and it was 101.4 degrees. Was around someone a few days ago who has since been diagnosed with Covid so I took a Covid test which was negative. I’m sitting here now with mild sweating and a headache. Took Tylenol earlier… read more

I’ve been diagnosed with neutropenic sepsis and am on several broad spectrum antibiotics until the cultures reveal the specific culprit. Labs are all over the place while neutrophils are almost non-existent and WBC is pretty low at 1.26. Fever got up to 103 overnight but temperature has been normal today, though I’m still sweating profusely. Had two stents placed in the bile duct last month and in combination with that and my renewed abdominal pain the GI surgeon is suspicious and now will be replacing them tomorrow. The doctors say I’ll be here for 4-5 days as long as there are no surprises so I’ll update further as this progresses towards resolution.
I want to thank those who recommended I take the fever seriously and seek care immediately. The infectious disease doctor stated that had I waited another day I would’ve certainly ended up in the ICU, or possibly worse.

My doctor said to call for a temperature of 100.4 or above just to be safe. I also just had my first round of r-chop for DLBCL. It’s day 4 and I have not experienced any side effects.
