I Was Just Diagnosed With DLBCL, Based On Positive In Removed Tonsil. PET Scan And Bone Marrow Are Clean. Is RCHOP Necessary?

A MyLymphomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

I’m asking because if I don’t have cancer showing up anywhere else right now, would it be prudent to just wait to do another PET scan in a few months to ensure it isn’t popping up, opposed to doing chemo? Chemo has long term consequences that can be very dangerous and I don’t want to go through it unless it’s absolutely necessary.

I was shocked when my numb fingers and sore sore right shoulder turned into not carpal and a pinched nerve as the less than competent neurologist thought at core ,turned oiput to be Large B cell NHL I had radiation on 7 c in neck and the other 9 spots were done with 6 RCHOP, both successful, none in vital organ or bone marrow, I was 78 and now 80 and in remission, the oncologist also recommended 4 spinal infusion of methodextrate for prevention . I go to Barrows and St Joes down town Phoenix, AZ. And so thankful for all their kindness and knowledge , I feel great, and cancer treatment has improved so much over the years, I drove myself to all ,the 31 mikes down and back and no I’ll effects . Main thing is if your body wants to rest or nap do so and keep water handy and drink . Good luck, the main thing is have confidence in your oncologist or find another,

Hi Toni
I thought the same when I had my spleen, tumor, part of stomach, removed. However dlbcl is aggressive! I went from a CT scan showing the mass on my spleen had shrunk, to 7 months later it had grown to the size of a small melon and invaded my abdomen. Stage iv, major surgery, the RCHOP. I've been in remission 2 years. I handled chemo very well. It does take awhile to feel like yourself, I finally do. Prayers for you. Vonnie

Be comfortable with what your oncologist is saying. Trust them!

If I had cancer anywhere in my body and the doctor recommended chemo, I’d take it. Not everyone has long-term consequences with chemo. I wouldn’t take chances with my life.
