My older brother is on “wait and see” and immunotherapy. My first cousin has MLL, had had two bone marrow transplants, and now not making any new RBC’s. He’s very sick and has been hospitalized for weeks. My nephew is just beginning chemotherapy (not sure which treatment plan, except it will be infusions, beginning with a 6 month treatment plan. He’s at the cancer center in Washington State close to Seattle. He has a history of mental illness, and substance abuse/addiction as well. He was in the… read more

Unfortunately my family has had a lot of cancer deaths, my 56 year old sister, a 3 year old nephew, 22 year old cousin, a couple grandparents, and aunts and uncles, and I have MZL, had myeloma, and basal cell carcinomas x 5. I've always wondered why so many cancers in my family. I did read that one in 4 people will be diagnosed with cancer. I sadly believe it's the toxic world. When I go to Seattle for cancer care, I'm dismayed by the large numbers of people in the cancer center. I pray for us all, patients, caregivers, families, friends. I do not see an end to it in my lifetime. I too fear for my grown children, and grandkids. My heart goes out to you.

Interesting strand to look into. Thanks. His liver is severely compromised due to years of alcohol abuse and is the area with the most “markers” from the biopsy. They biopsies his liver, kidneys, and bone marrow. The bone marrow was the biggest connection to the type of lymphoma/leukemia and he is now looking for a bone marrow donor that matches him. His blood sister did the testing and is not a match. I certainly can’t even think of being a candidate for him.
