How Did You Prepare For R-CHOP? How Did You Maintain During Your Treatment Period?

A MyLymphomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

55 yo male with recent large B cell lymphoma. Trying to stay active and positive through this. Been asked about a clinical trial but worried about all the potential side effects.

Thank you in advance

JohnDavis,
Hi and welcome to the site. Everyone on here is so nice, helpful and supportive. I have/had DLBCL stage IV and had treatments of RCHOP chemo. I've been in remission for 3 1/2years. I was very ill in the hospital so I had my first RCHOP in the hospital so no preparation. However, the last five treatments I was told to stay hydrated. I drank and still do a ton of water. Even during treatments to flush it through. Also, I was told to eat protein for my blood. Rest when you're fatigued. Take your antinausea med on time. Even if you're feeling well, don't skip your medicine. I even set my alarm at night to keep on my antinausea med schedule. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask me. Kelly

My mom drinks a lot of ginger tea, especially on the day of chemo and during the first week after, which seems to prevent nausea. In between, she also drinks cloudy pear juice to prevent constipation. Your taste buds might change too and most of the food will become tasteless and you might not want to eat anything. However, please ensure that you keep eating or at least drink protein shakes to maintain your weight.

You also need to watch out for febrile neutropenia, which can impact your treatment plan so please ensure to go to ER at the earliest sign of fever and chill. Also even if the chemo makes you very tired and low energy, please still do some gentle exercises such as streaching. We found exercise helped my mom recovering from the low point of the chemo impact very quickly.

Wish that all go well with the treatment. You can win it!
