Has Anyone Used A Cooling Chemo Cap And Did You Find In Helpful In Minimizing Hair Loss?
CarolFulton2,
I ask about the cap but was told I was going to lose my hair no matter what. I had RCHOP chemo treatments. I had long blonde thick hair. But, it came back. Grey and super curly. It has straightened out now and it's shoulder length. About half the thickness. It's been two yrs since treatments. Kelly
I’ve had 3 rounds of 6 and have not lost my hair as the oncologist had informed me. The oncology nurses were fantastic and seemed more in tune with what I should expect. Based on the oncologist’s assessment, my daughter went with me prior to the start of my treatments to help me with the selection of a wig and other accessories to be ready… $600 sitting in a bag unused, but I am grateful that I have not had to use them. Once I am sure that doesn’t change, I will try to find someone that can use everything and donate them.
The biggest issue I have had has been extreme fatigue which seems to be cumulative as the treatments progress. On my baseline PET scan before treatments started, the lymphoma had increased in size and number and had spread to 2 new areas which was quite upsetting. My score from the Radiologist went from a 1-2 to a 5. A repeat scan before my 3rd round showed a significant decrease in size and number and decrease in uptake. When we reviewed the images, there was no sign of the lymphoma. ❤️🙏🏻❤️ The oncologist said we were obligated to complete the full 6 rounds to be sure we put this as far into remission as possible.
I will have another scan in January before the 5th round. The problem now has been extreme GI upset for the last 6 weeks because the chemo has obliterated the healthy bacteria in my gut and there is a concern for CDiff. CDiff was found but inconclusive for toxins so additional testing is being done to evaluate for toxins. If present I will be on antibiotics for the remaining 12 weeks. I have been super cautious with my immune system being so compromised, but get discouraged with these other issues surfacing. I have done my best to stay positive to fight the fight but have to say the isolation has been tough… especially here at the holidays. Because of the questionable CDiff I cancelled plans to spend Thanksgiving with my daughter and her family. I truly miss them so much!
Before the cancer diagnosis, I lost my youngest son, a Marine Veteran, to suicide so this time of year is especially difficult with that alone. I know staying positive is a big part of how well we do, but do any of you have any suggestions to keep the positive mo Jo going? So many of you have battled much more than what I have faced and was just wondering how you manage? Thanks!
Thanks Kelly! A friend who is a retired RN told me to look into it but the oncology nurse said I could invest in it if I wanted to but from their experience it didn’t make a difference. My hair is already thin as it is. Was hoping to hear if anyone had actually used the apparatus and if they felt it helped. 💕
Your hair will come back. Let it go.
